BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for baseball, softball, and tennis on Monday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, and Saint Benedict claimed the Conference's weekly honors for April 17-23, 2023.
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball, and tennis) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (outdoor track & field and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

Keenan Hodgkin hit .429 (6-for-14) with a .714 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage as the Royals went a perfect 4-0 last week to remain unbeaten in MIAC play. His walk-off home run that lifted the Royals to a 6-5 victory over St. Olaf on 4/18 capped out a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored. He was a combined 5-for-8 with four runs and four RBI in two games against the Oles. Across the four-game stretch, Hodgkin tallied five runs, five RBI, two walks, and a double.
MIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Luke Siegle tossed two complete game victories, defeating St. Scholastica 7-0 on 4/18 and Saint Mary's 5-1 on 4/23. Siegle pitched seven scoreless innings against the Saints, allowing two hits with four strikeouts. He again went the distance in a seven inning game against the Cardinals, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Siegle dropped his MIAC-leading ERA from 2.27 to 1.77 and improved his record to 7-0 on the season.

Kayla Herda had a 13-hit week for the Gusties, leading the team through a seven-game win streak and five MIAC victories. Herda averaged .591 (13-for-22) with an on-base percentage of .625 in six games, scoring six runs with nine RBI while belting four extra-base hits including her first home run of the season against Concordia on 4/19.
MIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Ellie Peterson went 3-0 in the circle with a 0.44 earned run average, including a five-inning no-hitter against Macalester on 4/19. Peterson had three starts last week, posting two complete games and a shutout. She threw 16.0 innings in total and allowed one run on 10 hits with 13 strikeouts. Peterson held opponents to a .179 batting average for the week and has not allowed a run in 12 straight innings of work.
MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Tarm Rojanasoonthon went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 at No. 1 doubles matches for the Knights last week. He registered a 6-2, 6-2 win in singles against Macalester on 4/19 and added an 8-6 victory in doubles. He then bested the top-ranked singles player in NCAA Region VI by a 6-3, 6-4 tally on 4/22. That match also include a tight tussle in doubles as Rojanasoonthon and Tate Fuller pushed the top-ranked doubles tandem in the region, to the limit before the Gustavus duo eventually claimed an 8-7 win. Rojanasoonthon then won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles against Saint John’s on 4/23 and again teamed with Fuller on an 8-3 triumph at No. 1 doubles.
MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Mary Hose went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as Carleton closed out an undefeated regular season with wins over Gustavus and Saint Benedict to claim the outright MIAC regular season title. On 4/22, she teamed with Amelia Asfaw for an 8-6 doubles win to propel the Knights to the early lead against Gustavus. She added a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) result in singles to provide the fifth team point, clinching the overall victory for the Knights. Less than 24 hours later, she and Asfaw secured an 8-4 win atop the doubles lineup and Hose registered a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles, again providing the clinching team point and the outright conference championship.
