MIAC Athletes of the Week - November 24, 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for football, basketball, and hockey on Monday. Student-athletes from Carleton, Concordia, Hamline, Saint John's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
 
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball and hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Sam Koelling
Carleton College

Sam Koelling scored a career-best 27 points and grabbed seven boards - three of them at the offensive end - to help the Knights erase a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat North Central, 83-79, on 11/19. It was Koelling's fourth career game with at least 20 points.
 
MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week

Liam Madigan pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds to go along with two steals and a blocked shot in the Oles' 85-75 overtime victory against Northwestern on 11/22. He added five boards and a steal in a loss to UW-River Falls on 11/19.

MIAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week

Addy Huss poured in a career-best 35 points in the Knights' 76-70 loss to Bethany Lutheran on 11/19. Her single-game scoring total was the highest by a MIAC women's basketball player in nearly a calendar year and the second-highest in the conference over the last four seasons. The 35-point stat line is also the second-most in a single game by a Carleton player in recorded program history, and the second-best by a Carleton women's basketball player since 1992. Huss scored at least seven points in each quarter of the contest, and narrowly missed a fourth consecutive double-double to start the season, as she collected nine rebounds and had three assists in the game.
 
MIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Maya Metcalf

Maya Metcalf had a season-high 12 rebounds in the Cobbers' double-digit victory over St. Catherine in the conference opener on 11/19. Metcalf's game-high 12 boards helped the Cobbers post a decisive 48-34 advantage in rebounds over the Wildcats. In addition to her 12 boards, Metcalf also added two steals and a block in the win. On the offensive end of the floor, Metcalf was 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and had a team-high 12 points. Her second double-double in the team's first four games of the year helped Concordia remain unbeaten on the season.

MIAC Men's Hockey Offensive Player of the Week
AJ Carls

AJ Carls scored the lone goal for the Pipers in a road loss to Bethel on 11/21 before coming away with the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Pipers a 3-2 win the following night. Carls' first goal of the weekend came on a power play.
 
MIAC Men's Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Jon Howe

Jon Howe posted a 1.44 goals-allowed average and a .961 save percentage with 74 total saves to help the Johnnies collect five of six standings points in a series with St. Olaf on 11/21-22. Two of Howe's three goals allowed came on power plays, including one during a 5-on-3 disadvantage. Howe also registered the second assist of his collegiate career - on the game-winning goal - in a 2-1 road win on 11/21 and made four saves in the Johnnies' 1-0 shootout win following a 2-2 draw on 11/22.

Anna Nelson

Anna Nelson tallied a goal in each game of the Cobbers' split with nationally-ranked Gustavus on 11/21-22. Nelson scored her first collegiate goal and had an assist in Concordia's 3-2 win on 11/21 before coming up with a shorthanded goal in a 3-2 loss on 11/22. The win over the Gusties on 11/21 was the program's first against Gustavus since 2016, and just the second victory in the last 39 meetings between the two squads.

Abby Huselid made 89 saves in the Cobbers' split with nationally-ranked Gustavus on 11/21-22. Huselid made 50 saves in Concordia's 3-2 win on 11/21 and added another 39 in a 3-2 loss on 11/22. Huselid's 50 saves were the fourth-highest for a single game in program history.
