MIAC men's soccer players honored with academic awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Men's soccer players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) received academic honors from the United Soccer Coaches (USC) and College Sports Communicators (CSC) organizations.

Augsburg senior forward Carver Tierney and senior midfielder Mitchel Munzing, Carleton senior forward Ben Pennell, Gustavus junior forward Joe Flory, and St. Olaf junior midfielder Ryan Bechtel were selected as CSC Academic All-Americans. Tierney was a First Team selection, while Bechtel and Pennell were Second Team picks, and Flory and Munzing landed on the Third Team. The five Academic All-America selections from the MIAC tie the men’s soccer conference record; the MIAC also had five honorees in 2021.

Bechtel and Munzing also joined Augsburg senior defender Jeffrey Richter and St. Olaf senior midfielder Robi Buzakovic as United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America selections. Bechtel, Buzkovic, and Munzing were First Team honorees, with Richter being named to the Second Team.

Forty-six men’s soccer players received CSC Academic All-District honors, while seven received United Soccer Coaches Academic All-Region distinctions.
