FARMINGTON, Minn. — League play begins on Tuesday for Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) men's soccer teams.
Heading into the first conference contests of the season, three MIAC squads — Saint John's (6-0-0), St. Olaf (6-0-0), and Carleton (3-0-0) — are unbeaten and untied, with two more — Augsburg (1-0-2) and Macalester (1-0-3) — having yet to experience a loss this fall.

In the Polls
- Three MIAC teams opened the season ranked among the top 15 teams in NCAA Division III; St. Olaf was No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, followed by Augsburg at No. 8 and Macalester at No. 13.
- MIAC teams occupy four of the top five spots in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region IX Poll, released on September 15. St. Olaf is No. 1, followed by Saint John's at No. 2, Macalester at No. 4, and Augsburg at No. 5. Gustavus and Carleton received votes in the balloting.
National Notables
- Bethel junior midfielder Roy Kyle (Minneapolis, Minn. / RiverTree) is averaging 1.25 assists per game, the third-highest clip in NCAA Division III this season. He is tied for second in D-III with five total assists this season.
- Carleton first-year midfielder Matthew Deffo (Lavon, Texas / Shattuck-St. Mary's) is tied for fourth in NCAA Division III with an average of 1.00 assists per game this season.
- Saint John's has the top goal differential in NCAA Division III this season at 28-to-0. SJU is one of just six programs yet to allow a goal in 2026. The Johnnies' 28 goals lead the nation, while the team also ranks fourth in D-III in shots per game with an average of 22.83 for the season.
- Saint John's sophomore forward Eli Ryan (Victoria, Minn. / Minnetonka) is tied for second in NCAA Division III with five total assists this season.
- Saint John's first-year defender Billy Cornett (Minneapolis, Minn. / Cretin-Derham Hall) is tied for the NCAA Division III lead with three game-winning goals this season.
- Saint John's sophomore goalkeeper Alex Keekley (St. Louis Park, Minn. / Minnetonka) is one of 15 D-III goalkeepers with a perfect goals-against average and save percentage this season. Keekley leads all 15 goalkeepers with 450:00 minutes played. He also leads the nation with five shutouts.
- St. Olaf junior forward Jack Soares (Waxhaw, N.C. / Cuthbertson) is tied for eighth in Division III with 12 total points this season.
- St. Olaf sophomore midfielder Tustin Todd (River Falls, Wis. / River Falls) is tied for seventh in D-III with four total assists this season.
- St. Olaf junior goalkeeper Beckett Carlson (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) ranks sixth in NCAA Division III with 501:49 minutes played between the posts this fall. He is tied for second in D-III with four shutouts on the year.
- St. Scholastica senior midfielder Parker Chastey (Duluth, Minn. / Denfeld) tallied seven points against UW-Superior on 9/1, tied for the seventh-highest single-game point total in NCAA Division III this season.
Around the MIAC
- Augsburg senior midfielder Remus Repcak (Tualatin, Ore. / Tualatin) tallied a game-winner for his first goal of the season, finding the back of the net just beyond the 80-minute mark to give the Auggies a 2-1 win over Edgewood in a rematch of one of last season's NCAA Tournament matchups. The Auggies had been scoreless until 75 minutes into the game when they scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span for the win.
- Bethel junior midfielder Roy Kyle (Minneapolis, Minn. / RiverTree) assisted on the game-tying goal before netting the game-winner in the 86th minute of the Royals' 3-2 win over Simpson on 9/11. The assist was Kyle's second of the week, as he was credited with another helper in a 3-2 loss to UW-Eau Claire on 9/7.
- Carleton first-year midfielder Matthew Deffo (Lavon, Texas / Shattuck-St. Mary's) tallied two goals and two assists to help the Knights to a 2-0 week. Deffo opened the scoring in a 2-1 victory at UW-River Falls on 9/9 before setting up the 84th-minute deciding goal. Against Viterbo on 9/12, the rookie got the Knights started with a steal and assist in the opening minute of play, setting the stage in an eventual 5-0 win.
- Concordia first-year goalkeeper Dante Kummer (Evansville, Wis. / Evansville) went 2-0 between the pipes for the Cobbers to earn his first two collegiate wins. Kummer allowed one goal in a 3-1 victory over North Central on 9/9 before collecting his first collegiate shutout in a 3-0 win at Northwestern on 9/12.
- Gustavus sophomore forward Kieran Mahan (Wayzata, Minn. / Wayzata) scored a hat trick in just 5:10 of game time on 9/9 against defending UMAC champion UW-Superior. It was the first hat trick by a Gustie men's soccer player since 2023 and the fastest hat trick on record in program history.
- Hamline sophomore forward Johanso Camacho (Brooklyn Park, Minn. / Park Center) assisted on both of the Pipers' goals in a 3-2 loss to Northwestern on 9/8. Camacho was also responsible for the team's lone scores in a season-opening 1-1 draw with St. Norbert on 9/2 and a 4-1 road loss to Coe on 9/12.
- Macalester sophomore goalkeeper Justin Ratner (Chicago Ill. / Francis W. Parker) made eight saves to preserve a scoreless tie for the Scots against UW-Whitewater in a battle of unbeaten teams on 9/13. Ratner has allowed one goal in three starts and four total appearances this season. The 90-minute shutout against the Warhawks was the first of his collegiate career.
- Saint John's sophomore goalkeeper Alex Keekley (St. Louis Park, Minn. / Minnetonka) made 10 saves in two road shutouts last week as SJU improved to 6-0 and extended its shutout streak to 540 minutes to start the 2026 season. Keekley stopped three shots in a 3-0 win at Bethany Lutheran on 9/8 and recorded a season-high seven saves in a 1-0 victory at UW-Superior on 9/12. Keekley is now 5-0 with five shutouts and 16 saves, five starts into his Johnnie career.
- Saint Mary's junior forward Francesco Cardone (Roselle, Ill. / Lake Park) scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 road loss to Dubuque on 9/12. Cardone has played 70-plus minutes in each of the Cardinals' last two games.
- St. Olaf junior forward Jack Soares (Waxhaw, N.C. / Cuthbertson) scored five goals and added an assist to help the No. 3-ranked Oles extend their undefeated start to the season to 6-0-0 with three wins last week. The junior found the net in every contest, including a hat trick in a win over Bethany Lutheran on 9/11. Soares also recorded a goal and an assist against Carroll on 9/8 and closed the week with another goal in a 2-0 win at Carthage on 9/13.
- St. Scholastica senior midfielder Lanji Atanga (Minneapolis, Minn. / Totino Grace) recorded the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute at Loras on 9/12 to give the Saints their first victory of the season. The goal was the third of Atanga's collegiate career and his first since 10/8/2024.
