2025 MIAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin on Thursday. Twelve women's teams and eleven men's teams from around the MIAC will compete in the three-day meet held Thursday-Saturday at the Donald McNeely Spectrum on the campus of Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and co-hosted by Saint John's University and the College of Saint Benedict.
 
The MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin on Thursday with the multi-event competitions. The women's pentathlon starts at 2:00 p.m. with the men's heptathlon beginning 20 minutes later. The heptathlon finishes on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Friday's field events start at 4:00 p.m. and track events will follow at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's final session starts with field events at noon and track events an hour later. Saturday's final set of events - the men's and women's 4x400 relay - will begin at 3:55 p.m.

FOLLOW THE ACTION
Daily tickets are required to attend the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. All tickets will be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. Tickets are available for purchase on the MIAC's HomeTown Ticketing site.
 
Single-day adult tickets will be $12 and student tickets are $3. (Note: additional HomeTown Ticketing convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout, with estimated totals being $13.70 for adult / $4.43 for student per single-day ticket.) Children ages five and under do not require a ticket. Those eligible for student tickets include individuals currently enrolled in college, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Student ID is required where applicable.
 
Two-day passes will also be available. Two-day adult tickets are $27 and two-day student tickets are $9. (Note: multi-day passes include a required $3 HomeTown Ticket multi-day pass fee; additional convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout, with estimated totals being $28.12 for adult / $9.58 for student per two-day ticket.)
 
No ticket will be required for Thursday afternoon's pentathlon and heptathlon events. However, tickets will be required for the full days of competition on Friday and Saturday.
 
The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2025 Indoor Track & Field Championships, complete with the event schedule, entries, heat sheets, and links to follow the action live on the MIAC Sports Network and via real-time results. Results and recaps of the Championships will be made available throughout the event.

HANDING OUT THE HARDWARE
MIAC championship plaques will be presented to the first-place women's and men's teams at the conclusion of the meet on Saturday afternoon. Bethel University has swept both the men's and women's championships each of the last two seasons.
 
The top three finishers in each event automatically earn All-Conference honors and the 4th-through-6th place finishers will receive Honorable Mention distinction.
 
Individual awards will be voted on by coaches following the meet and will be announced - along with the complete list of All-Conference and honorable mention recipients - next week.

IN THE POLLS
Eleven MIAC teams rank among the top 31 in the North Region, with four – Gustavus (No. 6), Bethel (No. 8), and Carleton (No. 9) – earning positions among the top 10 in the latest regional rankings, released on February 19.

NATIONAL NOTABLES
Augsburg junior Allison Hookom (Andover, Minn. | Anoka) ranks 20th in NCAA Division III this season with a 400-meter dash time of 57.49.
 
Bethel junior Ellie Hernes (Fairmont, Minn.) is tied for 24th in NCAA Division III with a triple jump distance of 11.48 meters (37' 8").
 
Bethel junior Anna Speratos (Farmington, Minn.) has the 18th-best weight throw in D-III this season with a distance of 17.31 meters (56' 9.5").
 
Bethel graduate student Elle Thorson (Red Wing, Minn.) ranks 14th in Division III for the pentathlon with a score of 3358.
 
Carleton junior Hannah Preisser (Chapel Hill, N.C. | Carrboro) ranks 13th in NCAA Division III this season with a 5K time of 17:00.01.
 
Concordia junior Kyla Nygaard (Maple Grove, Minn.) has the 25th-best 400-meter dash time in D-III this season at 57.84.
 
Gustavus senior Megan Geraets (Mankato, Minn. | East) ranks among NCAA Division III's top 15 in the 200 (10th, 25.09), 400 (13th, 56.53), and long jump (15th, 5.67 meters, 18' 7.25") this season.
 
Hamline senior Lexi Brainer (Lakeville, Minn. | South) has the 22nd-best weight throw distance in D-III this season at 16.83 meters (55' 2.75").
 
Macalester first-year Ariella Rogahn-Press (Albuquerque, N.M. | Bosque School) ranks fifth in D-III for the 400 meters (56.22) and 18th in the 200 meters (25.23) this season.
 
Saint Mary's first-year Zari Young (Chicago, Ill. | Holy Trinity) is tied for 21st in Division III with a 60-meter dash time of 7.69.
 
St. Olaf junior Isabel Wyatt (Minneapolis, Minn. | Southwest) has the fifth-fastest 800-meter time in Division III this season at 2:12.03.

DEFENDING THE CROWN
Seven former individual MIAC champions are back in competition this weekend.
 
Augsburg junior Allison Hookom (Andover, Minn. | Anoka) won the 400-meter dash in her MIAC Championship debut in 2023 and claimed the 600 title as a sophomore in 2024.
 
Bethel junior Ellie Hernes (Fairmont, Minn.) won the triple jump at the 2023 MIAC Championships.
 
Bethel senior Sarah Stellmach (Mahtomedi, Minn.) won the 60-meter dash at the 2023 MIAC Championships.
 
Concordia senior Peyton Selle (Dickinson, N.D.) is the three-time defending champion in the indoor pentathlon, having won the event in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
 
Gustavus senior Megan Geraets (Mankato, Minn. | East) is the defending conference champion in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and long jump.
 
Macalester sophomore Diarra Chatham (Woodbury, Minn. | East Ridge) is the defending MIAC champ in the 60-meter dash.
 
Saint Benedict junior Jaylyn Ahlberg (Shoreview, Minn. | Mounds View) is the reigning MIAC champion in the pole vault.

AROUND THE MIAC
Augsburg junior Allison Hookom (Andover, Minn. | Anoka) ran a season-best time of 57.49 in the 400 on 2/21 at the Snowshoe Open. She also won the 600 in 1:35.77. Those wins came one week after running the fastest 400 (57.79) and 800 (2:21.72) at the CSB/SJU Invitational on 2/15. Hookom has won each of her last five races, including victories at three different distances.
 
Bethel junior Anna Speratos (Farmington, Minn.) broke the Royals' program record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.31 meters (56' 9.5") at the Stout Quad on 2/14. Speratos surpassed the previous decade-old record of 16.51 meters on four of her six throws.
 
Carleton junior Hannah Preisser (Chapel Hill, N.C. | Carrboro) finished second in the 5000-meter run at the Maverick Premier #2 on 2/15 with a nearly eight-second personal-best time of 17:00.01. The time surpassed the previous meet record.
 
Concordia junior Kyla Nygaard (Maple Grove, Minn.) broke a program record for the second consecutive weekend by surpassing the school's 300-meter mark that had stood for nearly four decades. Nygaard ran the 300 in 41.06 at the Bison Open on 2/8, clocking the fastest time in the MIAC and besting the previous program record set in 1986 by 0.55 of a second. Nygaard's 600-meter time of 1:34.33 also set a new program mark while her 400 time of 58.98 is No. 7 on the Concordia all-time list.
 
Gustavus senior Megan Geraets (Mankato, Minn. | East) won a pair of events at the Maverick Invitational on 2/21, recording a long jump distance of 5.53 meters (18' 1.75") and becoming the first Gustie in program history to run the 400 meters in under 57 seconds, breaking her own program record with a time of 56.76.
 
Hamline senior Lexi Brainer (Lakeville, Minn. | South) swept the throwing events at the Tostrud Classic on 2/21, winning the shot put at 12.33 meters (40' 5.5") and the weight throw at 15.50 meters (50' 10.25"). It was her second sweep of the month, having also won both events at the Luther Invitational on 2/8.
 
Macalester first-year Ariella Rogahn-Press (Albuquerque, N.M. | Bosque School) broke program records in the 200 and 400 meters at the Maverick Premier on 2/14. Rogahn-Press finished second in the 400 with a time of 56.22, breaking her previous mark of 56.67. She then clocked a time of 25.23 in the 200, eclipsing her previous record of 25.59 set in January.
 
Saint Benedict sophomore Sabriya Farquharson (Nassau, Bahamas | Saint Augustine's College) set a meet record in the long jump with a leap of 5.53 meters (18' 1.75") at the Bennies' home invitational on 2/15. She also won the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 11.14 meters (36' 6.75"). Farquharson has won both the triple jump and long jump at three different meets this winter and closed out the indoor regular season schedule as the runner-up in both events at the Tostrud Classic on 2/21.
 
St. Catherine graduate student Gabby Bodin (Minneapolis, Minn. | Osseo) set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.89 in prelims at the Tostrud Classic on 2/21. Bodin ran a 9.97 in finals, one of four sub-10-second finishes in the race.
 
Saint Mary's first-year Zari Young (Chicago, Ill. | Holy Trinity) won the 60-meter dash in a program-record time of 7.69 at the Maverick Invitational on 2/21. It was both her third win in the event and her third time breaking the school record this season.
 
St. Olaf junior Isabel Wyatt (Minneapolis, Minn. | Southwest) ran the fifth-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season in the 800-meter run at the Snowshoe Open on 2/21. Wyatt finished the race in 2:12.03, 0.22 seconds shy of the program record and the fastest in the MIAC this season by more than six seconds.
 
St. Scholastica sophomore Ella Engen (Clearbook, Minn. | Clearbrook-Gonvick) won the shot put at the CSB/SJU Alumni Meet on 1/25 with a throw of 10.84 meters (35' 6.75"). Engen won the weight throw a week earlier at the Twin Ports Open with a distance of 14.07 meters (46' 2").
