Indoor Track & Field 3/6/2025 2:00:00 PM MIAC announces 2024-25 Indoor Track & Field awards BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2024-25 award recipients for indoor track & field on Thursday. The top three finishers in each individual event and the top three teams in each relay at the 2025 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships received All-MIAC honors. Finishers 4-6 in each event were given honorable mention distinction. MIAC track & field coaches also voted on individual award recipients for Men's and Women's Track, Field, Rookie, and Coach of the Year honors. Bethel’s Grant Nelson and St. Scholastica’s Trent Beseth were named the Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year, respectively. Bethel’s Elle Thorson was voted the Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, while Augsburg’s Allison Hookom and St. Olaf’s Isabel Wyatt shared Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors. Macalester swept the Rookie of the Year accolades, with John Ihrke receiving the most votes for the Men’s Rookie of the Year and Ariella Rogahn-Press collecting the Women’s Rookie of the Year award. Bethel head coach Andrew Rock was celebrated by his peers as both the men's and women's MIAC Coach of the Year. Nelson (Jr. | Minneapolis, Minn. | Providence Academy) was voted Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after collecting a trio of titles at the 2025 conference meet. Nelson set new championship records in both the 200-meter (21.71) and 400-meter (48.29), and helped the Royals to victory in the 4x200-meter relay (1:28.40) as well. Nelson is the sixth Bethel runner to receive the Men's Track Athlete of the Year award and the third in as many seasons, joining teammates Landen Liu (2023) and Jacob Parent (2024) in receiving the distinction. Beseth (Sr. | Stanchfield, Minn. | Cambridge-Isanti) was selected Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year after sweeping the throwing events with a personal record of 17.81 meters in the weight throw and a facility record of 17.48 meters in the shot put. Beseth is the first St. Scholastica student-athlete in program history to receive MIAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year honors. Hookom (Jr. | Anoka, Minn.) earned a share of the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award after winning both the 400 meters (57.01) and 600 meters (1:35.46) at the 2025 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Hookom’s time in the 400 set a new facility record. Hookom is the first Auggie to receive Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors since Tonisha Bell in 2006. She is also the first former MIAC Women’s Rookie of the Year recipient to go on to receive the MIAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award as well. Wyatt (Jr. | Minneapolis, Minn. | Southwest) received a share of the Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year award after winning the 800 meters (2:14.63) and 1000 meters (2:51.13), in addition to securing an All-Conference honor with a third-place finish on the Oles’ 4x400-meter relay team (4:02.21). Wyatt’s time in the 1000-meter run was a personal best and set new championship and facility records. Wyatt is the third Ole on record to receive MIAC Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors and the first to do so since Megan Daymont won the award in back-to-back seasons in 2002-03. Thorson (Gr. | Red Wing, Minn.) was voted the Women’s Field Athlete of the Year after becoming the first Royal in program history to win the pentathlon. Thorson scored 3387 across the five events, finishing among the top four competitors in all five. She also placed third in the high jump (1.60m) for All-Conference honors and added honorable mention distinctions in both the 60-meter hurdles (9.23) and long jump (5.16m) at the 2025 conference championships. Thorson is the second consecutive Royal to receive MIAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors, joining 2024 recipient AnnaGrace Nelson. Ihrke (Fy. | Northbrook, Ill. | Glenbrook North) was selected as the Men’s Rookie of the Year after winning the 800 meters in a personal-record time of 1:54.53 at the 2025 MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Ihrke also registered an honorable mention performance in the 600 meters with another PR of 1:22.02. He is the first Macalester student-athlete to receive Men’s Rookie of the Year honors for indoor track & field. Rogahn-Press (Fy. | Albuquerque, N.M. | Bosque School) was voted the Women’s Rookie of the Year after recording a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash (25.22) and collecting honorable mention accolades in the 400 meters (57.75), 4x200-meter relay (1:47.55), and 4x400-meter relay (4:08.46). Rogahn-Press is the Scots’ second consecutive Women’s Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year, joining teammate and 2024 recipient Diarra Chatham. Rock (13th Season) led the Royals to a team title sweep for the third consecutive season. The Bethel men collected four individual titles, a pair of relay crowns, and 14 All-Conference performances, while the BU women’s team recorded two event championships and 12 All-Conference slots. This is Rock's fifth Women's Coach of the Year honor (2015, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and his fourth Men's Coach of the Year award (2017, 2023, 2024, 2025). He is the first coach in recorded conference history to sweep the MIAC Coach of the Year honors in indoor track & field for three consecutive seasons.
