NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The quarterfinal round of the 2025 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Tennis Playoffs got underway on Tuesday. No. 4 St. Olaf defeated No. 5 Concordia, 4-2, to punch a ticket to Thursday's semifinals, where the Oles will face regular season champion Gustavus.

St. Olaf earned a 4-2 victory over Concordia in the MIAC quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon. The Cobbers took two of three doubles matches for an early lead, but singles wins by Madden Vanderwerf and Cathal Mee at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, put the Oles on top, 2-1. Isaac Maddock evened the score with a 7-5, 6-1 win for Concordia at No. 2 singles before Lou Smith and Ryan Birnesser came away with three-set wins at the third and sixth spots within five minutes of each other to secure a team victory for the Oles.

St. Olaf now moves on to the semifinal round, where the Oles will challenge regular-season conference champion Gustavus in St. Peter at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gustavus defeated St. Olaf, 9-0, in the regular season matchup on March 29. This will be the fourth playoff matchup between the two programs, but the first since the 2014 title match. Gustavus is 3-0 all-time against St. Olaf in the postseason.

In the second semifinal contest this Thursday, No. 2 Carleton will host No. 3 Bethel at 4:00 p.m. The Knights topped the Royals, 6-3, in the regular season matchup on April 4. Carleton has a 3-0 advantage all-time over Bethel in the MIAC Playoffs, though the two programs have not met in the postseason since 2010.

The two semifinal winners will meet Saturday on the home court of the highest remaining seed to determine the 2025 MIAC Men's Tennis Playoff Champion. Match dates, times, and locations are subject to change due to weather.
