Emma Frost named Gustavus head softball coach

SAINT PETER, Minn. – Emma Frost has been named Head Softball Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College, Athletic Director Tom Brown announced Tuesday, July 1. Frost becomes the ninth head coach in program history, replacing Coley Ries Welter.

Frost arrives at Gustavus after three seasons as an assistant coach at St. Catherine University. In her time at St. Catherine, the softball team went 52-67 and made the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs twice, in 2023 and 2025.

While working with the Wildcats, Frost helped with the offensive part of the program, building one of the top offenses in the MIAC. The Wildcats led the MIAC in doubles and times hit by pitch, while finishing in the top half of the conference in 10 of 17 offensive statistics.

"We are excited to welcome Emma Frost as our new Head Softball Coach" Brown said. "Emma brings a strong blend of MIAC and NCAA coaching experience, offensive expertise, and a proven ability to build positive, competitive team cultures. She is deeply committed to developing student-athletes not only as players, but as confident leaders, successful students, and engaged members of the campus community."

Frost, a social work major, graduated from Minnesota-Duluth in 2022, where she was a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Conference Team member in 2022 and a team captain.

Outside of collegiate softball, Frost has coached at Minnesota Starters and Minnesota Renegades the past five seasons, working to develop players of all ages and help recruitable players have the opportunity to play at all NCAA levels. In 2023, she was a recipient of the NFCA Mary Nutter Scholarship, which provides coaches at all levels access to the best minds in the sport to become better coaches themselves.

"I'm incredibly honored to be selected as the next Head Coach of the Gustavus Softball program. It's a privilege to join a community with such deep passion, tradition, and pride. I'm excited to build a culture grounded in hard work, accountability, and a genuine love for the game" said Frost.

"Thank you to Tom Brown and the entire search committee for entrusting me with the opportunity to lead this program. I can't wait to get started with this team and begin the next chapter of Gustavus Softball. Go Gusties!"
