BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – NCAA Championship competition continued over the weekend for Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) student-athletes.
INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
The 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships took place March 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama, and included 16 men's participants and eleven women's competitors from the MIAC.
MIAC athletes totaled eight First Team All-America performances, including a pair of national runner-up results, and eleven Second Team All-America finishes. First-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers first through eighth (individual events and relays) in each event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Second-Team All-America status is awarded to finishers ninth through sixteenth (individual events) and ninth through twelfth (relays) in each event at the championships.

NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship Results
WOMEN'S HOCKEY
Three women's hockey teams from the MIAC competed in the opening round of the 13-team NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Tournament on Saturday. One MIAC team is headed to the round of eight, as Hamline (21-5-1) advanced on to the national quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Endicott. MIAC Women's Hockey Rookie of the Year Nina Thorson scored the game-winner midway through the second period before Ashlyn Abrahamson put the game away with a pair of third-period goals. The Pipers will take on No. 2-ranked Norwich (25-2-0) in Northfield, Vermont, at 2:00 p.m. Central time on Saturday, March 21.
MIAC regular-season champion Augsburg (24-4-1) came up on the wrong end of a 3-1 decision against Elmira (19-5-2) over the weekend, while MIAC playoff champion Saint Benedict (16-7-4) took Amherst (19-2-6) to overtime before falling, 2-1, to the reigning national runners-up.
The MIAC sent three women's hockey teams to the national tournament this year, the most ever for the conference.

MEN'S HOCKEY
No. 4-ranked Aurora pulled away in the third period to defeat MIAC champion Saint John's (17-7-4) on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Hockey Tournament. The Spartans led, 2-1, after two periods before scoring four goals in the final frame to end the Johnnies' season. SJU forward Jordan Newpower scored his eighth goal of the season on a power play early in the second period to cut Aurora's lead in half.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The 2025-26 women's basketball season came to an end for the MIAC's last two remaining teams in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament over the weekend. MIAC regular-season champion Concordia (26-5) defeated Johns Hopkins, 64-59, on Friday night to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 1993 before coming up short against No. 2-ranked Scranton in the national quarterfinals on Saturday, 67-42.
Competing in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1996, MIAC playoff champion Bethel (24-7) was defeated by undefeated Washington and Lee (31-0) by a 75-67 margin on Friday.
The MIAC sent four women's basketball teams to the national tournament this year, one shy of the conference record of five, set in 1995.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
MIAC champion Gustavus (27-3) came up one basket short in a 93-92 loss to UChicago in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament on Saturday night. The Gusties got the ball back with 20 seconds left in regulation, but could not convert on the would-be game-winning shot. MIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year Myles Barnette starred on the offensive end of the court, pouring in a career-high 40 points.
This was the Gusties' first Sweet 16 game since 2003, and the farthest a MIAC men's basketball team had gone in the NCAA Tournament since 2020, when Saint John's and St. Thomas were slated to square off in the Sweet 16 before the remainder of the Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SWIMMING & DIVING
The MIAC had three swimmers and three divers selected to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. The 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships will be held March 18-21 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Franklin College, the Indiana Sports Corporation, and the IU Natatorium will serve as hosts.
