MIAC Athletes of the Week - April 14, 2026

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for outdoor track & field and golf on Tuesday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Concordia, Gustavus, Saint Mary's, and St. Olaf claimed the Conference's weekly honors.
 
The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the spring season, team sports (baseball, softball, and tennis) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (outdoor track & field and golf) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kevin Turlington

Kevin Turlington finished less than one second off the program record in the 5,000-meter run with his third-place finish among 343 runners at the UW-Platteville Invitational on 4/10. Turlington's time of 14:01.93 was a near 10-second personal record, ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season, and represents a top-50 performance in NCAA Division III history.
 
MIAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Cooper Folkestad

Cooper Folkestad recorded the third-farthest distance in the shot put in NCAA Division III history as he won the event at the NDSU Spring Classic on 4/11 with a mark of 19.26 meters (63' 2.25"). That distance is the tops in D-III this season, and would rank No.11 on the Division I performance list and No. 2 on the Division II list. Folkestad's winning distance broke his own program record by two feet.  

MIAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week

Mya Slavin set a new program record in the 1,500-meter run at the Manitou Classic on 4/11 with a winning time of 4:33.78. Slavin's time, which surpassed the previous mark established in 2004 by six seconds, ranks 23rd in NCAA Division III this season.
 
MIAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Anna Speratos

Anna Speratos broke the program record in the women's hammer throw with a winning distance of 54.23 meters (177' 11") at the Gene Glader Invitational on 4/11. Speratos' throw surpassed her previous Bethel record by 0.78 meters and now ranks third in NCAA Division III this season.

MIAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Week
Ryan Herbst

Ryan Herbst recorded top-six individual finishes in a pair of tournaments last week. Competing against NCAA Division II programs at the Dominican Spring Invitational on 4/6-7, Herbst tied for sixth with a 2-over par 218 over 54 holes before carding a 4-under par 140 in a dual with Gustavus on 4/11-12. Herbst posted a career-low 66 (-6) in the second round on 4/12.

Addison Longie was the medalist at the Gustie Spring Classic, placing first in a field of 75 golfers with a two-round score of 151 (+7). Longie was 4-over par after the first round on 4/11 before carding a +3 in the final round to secure the individual title and a runner-up team finish for Gustavus.
