ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The 2023 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships got underway on Friday with an action-packed afternoon of preliminary and final events on the campus of Bethel University.
With eight events complete, Saint John's holds a narrow lead in the men's team standings with 79 points, followed by St. Olaf with 75 points. Macalester currently occupies third place on the men's side with 32 team points. In the women's team standings, St. Olaf has a 16-point lead over Saint Benedict, 76-60, with eight events scored. Gustavus is third with 35 points.
Saint Benedict junior Fiona Smith added to her already illustrious collection of individual MIAC titles with victories in both the women's 1500- and 10000-meter runs on Friday. She won the 1500 in 4:34.40 and clocked in at 34:31.92 in the 10K. On the men's side, Jaeden Frost earned All-MIAC honors in a pair of events with a runner-up result in the hammer throw (51.78 meters) and a third-place showing in the discus (43.34 meters) to account for 14 SJU points.
Finals in all remaining events will be conducted on Saturday afternoon. Events are scheduled to begin at noon with the last set of events - the women's and men's 4x400 relay - running at 4:45 and 4:55 p.m., respectively.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for students (with ID). Children ages 5 and under will be admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the venue.
