MIAC Athletes of the Week - February 6, 2024

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners for swimming & diving and indoor track & field Tuesday. Student-athletes from Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, St. Olaf, and St. Scholastica claimed the Conference's weekly honors.

The MIAC Athlete of the Week awards are nominated by the Conference's sports information directors and selected by MIAC staff. Throughout the winter season, team sports (basketball, hockey) Athletes of the Week will be recognized on Monday afternoons, with individual sports (swimming & diving, indoor track & field) announced on Tuesday afternoons. The winners of the latest Athlete of the Week awards are listed below, along with details on their outstanding performances.

MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Nyden Hill
Gustavus Adolphus College

Nyden Hill won the 100 breaststroke at the Gustie Challenge on 2/2-3, placing first with a time of 59.77. Hill also took third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:12.21.

MIAC Men's Diving Athlete of the Week
Wyatt Gabrielson
St. Olaf College

Wyatt Gabrielson qualified for regionals on the 1-meter board by meeting the qualifying standard for the second time with a score of 433.60 at the Dodd Road Diving Invite on 2/3. Gabrielson's score was the highest of the day among the seven men's divers in the 1-meter event.


MIAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week
Marit Isaacson
Gustavus Adolphus College

Marit Isaacson won three individual races and contributed to three relay wins for the Gusties at their home invitational on 2/2-3. Isaacson took first in the 200 IM (2:15.05), 100 backstroke (1:01.48), and 200 backstroke in 2:12.84. In the relays, Isaacson was a part of the winning 200 medley (1:51.06), 400 medley (4:08.99), and 800 free (8:27.19) teams.

MIAC Women's Diving Athlete of the Week
Hailey Westrup
Carleton College

Hailey Westrup won the women's 1-meter competition at the Dodd Road Diving Invite on 2/3. Westrup finished first out of 15 entrants with an 11-dive score of 412.30. That is her second qualifying score for the NCAA Regional Meet. She also took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 393.70.


MIAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Landen Liu
Bethel University

Landen Liu broke his own MIAC record in the 60-meter dash at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational on 2/3. Liu ran the event in 6.73 seconds, besting his previous mark of 6.76 from last year, placing second. That time ranks second in the nation behind UW-La Crosse's Sam Blaskowski, who took first in the event with an NCAA Division III record time of 6.64.

Trent Beseth
The College of St. Scholastica

Trent Beseth collected two first-place finishes at the Lake Superior Challenge on 2/3. Beseth broke his own program shot put record with a toss of 16.51 meters (54' 2"). In the weight throw, Beseth had a winning huck of 16.77 meters (55' 0.25"). His shot put ranks 12th in the nation this season while his weight throw is 49th.


MIAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Kelsie Sealock
Bethel University

Kelsie Sealock led the Royals with an NCAA Division III-leading time of 8.51 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational on 2/3. Sealock ran a personal-best time which now ranks as the sixth-fastest in Division III history.

Lily Beneke won the weight throw competition at the Lake Superior Challenge on 2/3 with a new personal-best throw of 16.85 meters (55' 3.5"). The distance is good for 15th in NCAA Division III this season.
