NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The annual Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) multi-event competitions are in the books and after two intense days of action, Bethel's AnnaGrace Nelson and Carleton's Ian Mortensen earned conference championships in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively.

Nelson won the heptathlon with 4,264 points after placing second in the 800-meter run (2:34.61), 100-meter hurdles (15.23), high jump (1.55m). She also took third in the javelin (31.88m), fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.82) and long jump (4.82m), and seventh in the shot put (9.11m). Saint Benedict's Justus Floren placed second in the heptathlon with 4,172 points, followed by Macalester's Sarah Beth Hobby in third with 4,003 points.
Mortensen won a tightly contested decathlon competition with 6,525 points. He finished first in the javelin (56.52m), second in the discus (36.52m), shot put (12.50m), long jump (6.21m), and 400-meter dash (51.77), in addition to third-place results in the 100-meter dash (11.33) and pole vault (4.00m). Saint John's Max Lelwica took second in the decathlon with 6,432 points and Concordia's Wade Rhonemus took third with 6,416 points.
The conclusion of the multi-event competitions signals the beginning of the second half of the Outdoor Championships, which will take place next Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at Hamline University in St. Paul. The MIAC has a homepage dedicated to the 2024 MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be updated with event schedules, entries, heat sheets, and results as they become available over the next two weekends.
All tickets for next week's Championships will be sold and purchased online. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. Tickets for the May 10-11 portion of the Championships can be purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. Adult admission is $12; the price for youth (ages 6-18) through college students is $2. Children aged 5 and under and MIAC pass holders will be admitted for free.
