MIAC Swimming & Diving Notebook - January 22, 2026

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) swimmers and divers are grinding out the last few weeks of regular-season competition before the 2026 conference championship meet in Minneapolis next month.


CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS ON SALE
Fans planning to attend the 2026 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships can purchase their seats in advance, as all tickets will once again be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will not be cash sales at the venue; however, spectators can purchase tickets using a mobile device at any time, including while at the venue. Tickets are on sale now via the MIAC's HomeTown Ticketing site.

"All-session" tickets will grant admission to all seven sessions of the Championships. Adult passes are $73, and student passes are $31. (Note: $3 HomeTown Ticketing fee included; additional convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout.) Children ages five and under do not require a ticket. Those eligible for student tickets include individuals currently enrolled in college, high school, middle school, and elementary school. Student ID is required where applicable.

Single-session tickets are also available for purchase online only. Single-session adult tickets are $12 each, while student tickets are $6. (Note: additional HomeTown Ticketing convenience and credit card fees will be added during checkout). Children ages five and under do not require a ticket.

The 2026 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships will officially get underway on Wednesday, February 11, with the first session beginning at 6:00 p.m. Fans unable to attend the championships in person will be able to stream the event live on YouTube through the University of Minnesota's streaming services.

NATIONAL NOTABLES
Eleven MIAC swimming & diving programs received Scholar All-America Team distinction for the Fall 2025 semester by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on January 20. Both the men's and women's programs from Carleton College, Hamline University, Macalester College, and St. Olaf College, along with the women's teams from the College of Saint Benedict and St. Catherine University, and the men's team from Saint John's University, were among the 709 teams representing 414 institutions across the NCAA and NAIA to receive the honor.

Seven individuals with MIAC ties have been selected for induction into the CSCAA Division III Hall of Fame in 2026. Among the coaches being inducted into the CSCAA Hall of Fame are former Carleton head coach Peggy Carl (1983-90), former Hamline head coach Marty Knight (1973-90), and former Macalester head coach Bob Pearson (1985-11). Four former Hamline Pipers with national championships on their resumes are also being inducted, including Carrie Hefte (1978-81), Kate Lundsten (1979-82), Beth Peterson (1981-83), and Susan Brings (1982-85). The 2026 CSCAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on May 4, 2026, at Joe's Live in Rosemont, Illinois, during the CSCAA Annual Awards Celebration, hosted at the Loews Chicago.

Carleton senior Hans Anderson (Watertown, Minn. / Watertown-Mayer) recorded the fourth-best men's 6-dive score off the 3-meter board in NCAA Division III this season with a total of 458.45 points at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.

Carleton sophomore Nina Schwab (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) leads NCAA Division III women's divers off the 1-meter board thanks to a score of 486.00 at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.

Gustavus junior Braden Ripken (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) ranks tenth in NCAA Division III in the men's 50-yard breaststroke (25.35) and 13th in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (54.73). Both times were recorded at the Luther Invitational on 11/21-22/25.

Saint Benedict junior Haley Zelen (Shakopee, Minn. / Shakopee) recorded three top-10 national times at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25. Zelen ranks third among NCAA Division III swimmers in the women's 100 fly (54.72), fourth in the women's 50 free (23.07), and ninth in the women's 100 free (50.79). Zelen also ranks fifth in the 50 fly with a time of 25.39, recorded in the Bennies' dual with St. Cloud State on 11/15/25. Her time of 59.76 in the women's 100 IM, recorded at the St. Kate's Pentathlon on 10/11/25, ranks 21st in D-III this season.

Saint John's senior Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn. / Chaska) ranks tenth in NCAA Division III with a time of 4:30.15 in the men's 500 freestyle. Slavik is also tenth in the men's 1000 free (9:30.13) and men's 1650 free (15:43.14). All three times were recorded at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.

Saint John's junior Cody Watts (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Tech) ranks 23rd in NCAA Division III this season, with a men's 6-dive score of 327.40 off the 3-meter board at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.

St. Olaf senior Zibby Hanifl (Northfield, Minn. / Northfield) ranks 17th among NCAA Division III women's divers off the 1-meter board this season with a top score of 360.25, recorded at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.

St. Olaf first-year Alayna McCormick (Grayslake, Ill. / Warren Township) ranks 21st in NCAA Division III for the women's 1-meter dive with a six-dive score of 352.5, recorded at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6/25.


AROUND THE MIAC
Augsburg sophomore Danielle Hobbs (Hopkins, Minn. / Bloomington Jefferson) set season-best times in three freestyle events at the Roger Ahlman Invitational on 12/5-6. Hobbs swam the women's 1650-yard freestyle in 21:12.11, women's 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.85, and 1women's 500-yard freestyle in 6:01.74.

Carleton senior Hans Anderson (Watertown, Minn. / Watertown-Mayer) swept both boards during Carleton's dual meet with Gustavus on 1/16. Anderson recorded a six-dive score of 260.00 to win the men's 1-meter dive competition by more than 100 points and totaled 294.55 points to take the men's 3-meter title by a margin of 131 points.

Carleton first-year Julia Michalski (Sturgeon Bay, Wis. / Sturgeon Bay) won three individual events and swam on a victorious relay in the Knights' dual meet with Gustavus on 1/16. After helping Carleton to victory in the women's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.47, Michalski touched the wall first in the women's 50-yard freestyle (24.84), women's 100-yard freestyle (54.40), and women's 200-yard IM (2:16.00).

Concordia senior Tinsley Porter (Brainerd, Minn. / Brainerd) won the women's 200 backstroke in the Cobbers' dual meet at Jamestown on 1/21. Porter clocked in at 2:52.30. She also placed third in the women's 400 IM (5:47.04) and helped the team to top-three results in the 200 freestyle relay (1:57.91) and 200 medley relay (2:10.51).

Gustavus junior Braden Ripken (Blaine, Minn. / Spring Lake Park) led the Gustie men to a 173-126 victory against Saint John's on 1/17. Ripken won the men's 100 freestyle with a time of 47.72. He was the runner-up in the men's 50 free, finishing 0.05 out of first place with a time of 21.82. He also helped the Gusties claim victory in the men's 400 freestyle relay (3:11.44).

Gustavus senior Gabriella Stoudt (Maple Plain, Minn. / Delano) helped the Gustie women to a 191-107 victory over Saint Benedict on 1/17 by sweeping the diving events. Stoudt recorded NCAA qualifying scores with 437.00 points off the 3-meter board and 438.40 points off the 1-meter board.

Hamline senior Kevin Bossou (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall) swept the men's diving competitions in the Pipers' dual meet against Minnesota Morris on 11/1. Bossou claimed victory in both the men's 1-meter (348.45) and men's 3-meter (198.45) events.

Hamline sophomore Ellsa Sorenson-Wagner (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) placed second in the women's 100 back and 3rd in the women's 200 back at the Roger Ahlman Invitational on 12/5-6. Sorenson-Wagner touched the wall in 1:01.67 in the 100 back and 2:17.13 in the 200 back.

Macalester senior TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove) returned to the competition pool for the first time in ten months and collected four first-place finishes in the Scots' 155-143 dual victory over Saint John's on 10/25. Palli registered individual wins in the men's 50-yard freestyle (21.96) and men's 100-yard freestyle (48.38), and helped Macalester to relay wins in the men's 200-yard medley relay (1:38.80) and men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.87).

Macalester senior Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif. / Tamalpais) won two individual events and tallied a relay victory to help the Scots defeat Saint Benedict in a dual meet on 10/25. Uhlhorn-Thornton placed first in the women's 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.75 and won the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:28.47. Both times are the fastest in the MIAC this season. Uhlhorn-Thornton also swam on the Scots' 200-yard freestyle relay that won with a time of 1:41.56.

Saint Benedict junior Haley Zelen (Shakopee, Minn. / Shakopee) rewrote the CSB record book at the Rochester Invitational on 12/4-6, breaking three individual program records and contributing to a relay record while earning three NCAA Division III B-cut times. Zelen set new marks in the women's 50 free (23.07), women's 100 fly (54.72), and women's 100 free (50.79), and helped the CSB 200 medley relay team post a new record time of 1:46.69. Zelen's time of 1:05.77 in the women's 100 breast ranks second in Saint Benedict history.

St. Catherine senior Olivia Weil (Cedarburg, Wis. / Cedarburg) won the women's 1650 free with a time of 18:19.31 at the WildBear Invitational on 11/20-22. Weil was also the runner-up in the women's 400 IM (4:45.37) and women's 200 breast (2:26.85), and placed third in the women's 100 breast (1:08.17) and 500 free (5:22.02).

Saint John's senior Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn. / Chaska) led the Johnnies with three individual wins in a dual meet with Gustavus on 1/17. Slavik won the men's 400-yard individual medley (4:14.02), men's 500-yard freestyle (4:51.03), and men's 1,000-yard freestyle (9:51.90). He holds the MIAC's top time in all three events this season.

St. Olaf senior Aiden Yung (Duluth, Minn. / Duluth East) recorded first-place finishes in the men's 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.44), men's 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.67), and men's 400-yard individual medley (4:21.84) in the Oles' dual meet at Macalester on 1/17. Yung also swam on the second-place men's 200-yard medley relay team (1:39.74).

St. Olaf first-year Alayna McCormick (Grayslake, Ill. / Warren Township) broke a 27-year-old program record with a score of 464.45 points off the 3-meter board in the Oles' 163-136 dual victory at Macalester on 1/17. McCormick won the women's 3-meter event by nearly 40 points and was victorious off the 1-meter board with a score of 437.35 and a near 30-point margin of victory, qualifying for NCAA Regionals in both events.
