Records fall on Day 3 of MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

MINNEAPOLIS – The 2026 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships continued with 13 events on Friday at the University of Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

After three days of competition, Gustavus leads both the men's and women's standings with point totals of 658 and 520, respectively.

In the women's individual events, Saint Benedict junior Haley Zelen set new MIAC and meet records with a time of 54.10 in the 100 fly. That time ranks second in NCAA Division III this season. Zelen's teammate, Mary Morris, swam like it was 1999, touching the wall in 1:54.24 to become the first CSB swimmer since the turn of the century to win the MIAC title in the 200 free. Conversely, St. Olaf senior Paige Steenblock won her third straight MIAC crown in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:35.14. Steenblock's Ole teammate Olivia Small claimed victory in the 100 back by four-hundredths of a second with a time of 56.59.

On the men's side, Gustavus junior Braden Ripken broke the MIAC and meet records in the 100 breaststroke with a championship-winning time of 53.76. It was the fourth consecutive year a Ripken has won the conference championship in the event; Braden has now won the last two, while his brother, Kieran, won the event in 2023 and 2024. Saint John's junior Brayden Slavik became the first MIAC swimmer in the last 15 years to break four minutes in the 400 IM, winning his third consecutive conference title in the event with an NCAA B Cut time of 3:57.55. Gustavus junior Aiden Carlson won the 100 fly in 49.66, while fellow Gusties Logan Cyr picked up the win in the 200 free in 1:42.01, and Josh Wallin won the 100 back in 50.03. Carleton senior Hans Anderson completed a sweep of the men's diving events with a victory off the 1-meter board, scoring 446.10 points in finals for a second straight conference title in the event.

To close out the evening, Gustavus won the men's 200 freestyle relay in 1:23.32, while Saint Benedict won the women's 200 freestyle relay in 1:35.76 in a pair of tight relays.

Following each of Friday evening's competitions, a short awards ceremony was held. The top three finishers in each event earned All-Conference honors, while individual finishers 4-6 and the fourth-place relay team earned honorable mention distinction. Complete results can be found here.

The meet will conclude on Saturday with prelim rounds again set to begin at 10:30 a.m. The mile event is scheduled to take place 45 minutes after the prelim session is completed. Saturday finals will begin at 6:30 p.m.
